Dear pupil,
I am excited for what's in store for both you and I this year. In my 14 years of being an educator there has been no other experience more worthwhile then being able to assist a pupil with his/her academic needs. I have worked as a tutor for pupils from elementary school to college and it has been my assessment that most students gain from receiving one on one feedback from someone experienced with education. From a young age, I wanted to be a teacher and as a college student I began that experience by becoming a tutor to college students. As I received my Masters degree in education, concentration in English, I learned how to apply what I learned as a student in context to what would be of benefit for mt students.
In my experiences as both student and teacher, I have learned about the importance of patience and the ability to constructively provide feedback for the purpose of improvement. As a student, there existed nothing worse then recieving a paper back with red marks and no conversation. In my thoughts, how could I improve without being given feedback on what I did wrong and the red marks reminded me of my failure in writing. So when I became a tutor in college, one of my main goals was to establish a dialogue about the writing and/or assignments so that each person that I assisted would know that I had a valued interest in helping them to achieve their academic goal. The payoff were the many times my tutees came back with smiles on their faces validating their happiness with their own improvement.
As I became an educator, I never lost this principle. Taking the time to learn the learner was of the utmost importance. In order to assist any pupil it becomes necessary to study observe and evaluate a student's learning behaviors to which you match how to best teach subject matter. Individualized instruction helps with focusing on strengths and weaknesses, therefore creating an opportunity to introduce instructional practices which are specifically outlined to a pupils learning needs. Therefore, when a pupil learns his/her learning style, he/she becomes enpowered to achieve their goals.
It is my hope that both you and I will gain from this tutoring experience. I look forward to helping you with reading and writing strategies, grammar, vocabulary developing and analyzing text. Additionally, it is my hope to assist you with being equipped with test taking skills so that holistically you can be prepared for any learning situation. Talk to you soon.
