I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2011. While I majored in Biology, I also gained a world-class education in other subjects, like writing, math, social sciences, and history. Since graduating, I have been teaching part-time and doing scientific research. I have been tutoring and helping others learn since high school.
I am well-qualified and available to tutor in science (especially biology, chemistry, physical sciences, and microbiology), math (elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus), and writing (editing, grammar, vocabulary, and the writing process). Additionally, I am qualified to help high schoolers prepare for the ACT, SAT, and college applications essays and interviews. I also have experience with the GRE, and am available to people applying to graduate school. I have high scores for each of these tests: ACT 34; SAT 730 Critical Reading, 740 Math; GRE 162 Math, 163 Verbal Reasoning, 5.0 Writing.
I am available for tutoring in several extracurricular areas: violin, sewing, and cross country/track and field. I have played the violin for 11 years and am qualified to help beginner to intermediate players learn specific techniques or general concepts. I have been sewing since I was a young child, and would be excited to teach basic techniques (how to use a sewing machine, how to read a pattern, etc.) to any age. Lastly, I ran Varsity Cross Country and Track in college, and would be available for any age who is looking to learn about long-distance running and weights workouts.
As for my tutoring methods: I believe that every child/teenager can achieve her academic goals. It can take a lot of planning, hard work, and encouragement, but that's why I'm here! I can help you/your child make a plan to achieve specific test scores, grades, or concept mastery. Then, through positive encouragement, support, and hard work, I can help you/your child reach those goals! I expect a commitment from the tutee to work with me to create these plans to achieve their goals. But I will also make a commitment to help the tutee stick to this plan to reach those goals.
