I have one of the first degrees in state history for the educational subject "Teaching of Computer Science" from the University of Illinois. I spent close to 15 years teaching various topics on the subject, including computer programming, graphics, web authoring, and business applications. I have experience teaching students from middle school through adult.
I taught the subject for three years at an Academic Center in Chicago and actually developed the curriculum for the course to use the software that is still in use today. I also helped maintain their website and assisted with computer network and lab maintenance.
I have a collective eleven years of experience in teaching Microsoft Access, beginning with Catapult Software Training Centers in Chicago, IL from 1995 to 1997. From there, I spent five years teaching Microsoft products to students and faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago. From 2002 through 2006, I taught Microsoft Office applications, including Access, in the Chicago Public Schools for Walter Payton College Prep and Steinmetz Academic Centre. I also have five years of work experience with International Paper in Charlotte, NC, where I used Microsoft Access on a daily basis, creating and maintaining databases for monitoring manufacturing line efficiencies.
Microsoft Access is a database program for storing and recalling large-scale amounts of organized data. In a Microsoft Access class, students learn how to create tables, organize them with fields, and use different field formats such as text, number, boolean, date/time, and memo data types. Students can learn how to add, modify, and delete records. They will work with the Query By Example (QBE) grid, where they can select records based on specific criteria, use wildcard characters or number ranges, and they can calculate different fields based on their needs. Students can also create forms with buttons, combo boxes, drop-down lists, and toggle switches to make data entry even easier. Finally, reports can be created and modified, allowing users to change titles, page columns, format information, and group records based on whatever criteria they wish.
I have over ten years of teaching experience with Microsoft Excel at all levels from middle school to adult, and I have spent the last five years using Excel extensively as part of my job as a Data Analyst. I am familiar with lookup tables, pivot tables, scenario managers, creating and editing macros and working with Visual Basic.
I have fifteen years of experience in both teaching Microsoft Access and creating databases. I have worked with queries, creating forms, calculations, reports, created macros, modified Visual Basic, importing tables, and linking to outside sources.
