Formerly a high school mathematics teacher, but have transitioned toward the professional world and currently work as a consulting actuary. I have taught the following courses:

In the past I have also been a private tutor for high school students, and have been successful in helping them achieve a deeper understanding of their studies. Session are action packed, typically revolving around solving and working through a number of study problems to master course objectives. Students who not only want to be able to do well on their assessments, but desire an understanding of the fundamentals will be a great fit for my tutoring style.

Algebra 2

Previously taught this course, which focuses on advanced equation solving techniques and systems of equations. Graphing and transformations of families of related functions is also covered.

Calculus

Previously taught one year high school calculus course and have completed three semesters in undergraduate calculus. This course focuses on the study of changes in functions. Limits are introduced and explored, as well as derivatives and their applications. The second half of the course focuses on integral calculus and its applications.

Geometry

Previously taught this subject to high school students. This course introduces Euclidean axioms and develops the conclusions that follow. The concept of proof is heavily developed and explored throughout the course. Properties of various geometric objects (both on the plane and in three dimensions) are discovered and cataloged.

Precalculus

This course serves as a refresher in many of the topics of Algebra II and Trigonometry, as well as an introduction to the concept of Limits, which play a significant role in calculus.

The basic mathematical methods and techniques required for success in calculus are reviewed and expanded upon.

Trigonometry

This topic is typical taught as a component of Algebra II and/or Precalculus. Trigonometry is the detailed study of various measures within triangles. Various trigonometric functions (which are based on right triangles) are defined and used to model observable real world phenomena.

Statistics

This course explores the concept of using a small sample from a larger population in order to learn and make conclusions regarding the entire population. Statistics allow us to determine appropriate estimates for population characteristics from a small sample, and allow us to determine how useful and accurate our estimates are likely to be.

Probability

This course explores the process of determining the relative likelihood of various events within a known population of objects. Discrete and continuous probability distribution functions are identified and used to solve various problems.

Discrete Math

I taught a high school course in Discrete Mathematics that covered various topics such as: election theory, fair division of finite resources, graph theory, probability distributions, and others.

Actuarial Science

I am an associate of the Society of Actuaries (met the requirements in 2012). This involved passing a series of examinations in probability, financial mathematics, life contingencies, financial economics, and other actuarial models.
