Hi to all my future students!

As someone who craves learning new things, it is a pleasure to be able to share my love of learning with students.

From my travels in Japan and throughout Asia, to my exposure to many cultures in our great city, I believe these experiences and stories can influence students to open up their minds to new possibilities.

Previously, in Japan, I not only taught English language classes, but tutored individuals with wide-ranging English language abilities. It was fun to be able to share my native language with others.

My personality reflects my philosophy of respect for other, kindness and an empathetic ear for those struggling with their given studies.

During my leisure, I enjoy playing tennis, biking along the lake, and traveling!

Algebra 1

At Northeastern Illinois University, I took 2 courses: Introduction to Algebra and Basica Algebra, in which I received, grades of A and B, respectively.

American History

I completed my undergraduate degree in History. Specifically, I successfully completed 12 credit hours of American Govt., History of Chicago, Thesis paper on US involvement in Vietnam. Also, have teaching certificates in Social Science for elementary school and high school.

Writing

I earned a B.A. in History which emphasized writing as a vital part of the coursework. I took a writing course as an undergraduate. As a proofreader, I reviewed legal documents for sytax error, grammar, etc.

English

Certified in ESL for Illinois.

ESL/ESOL

I spent 2 plus years in Tokyo, Japan as EFL instructor. I have endorsements in both Illinois and Florida in ESL/ESOL elementary school; tutored students in Japan outside of the private school where I taught; received TESOL Methods diploma while studying in Cuenca, Ecuador.

Government & Politics

I received a B.A. in History with coursework in American government and its political system. Also, minored in political science at UIC. Also, I took coursework in Japan on its government and political system.

World History

I have a B.A. in History. I was a scholarship recipient for a one-year exchange program in Chiba, Japan.

Proofreading

I have over 8 years' experience in proofreading at a law firm.

TOEFL

I worked as an EFL instructor in Japan for over two 2 years. Have teaching certificates in Illinois and Florida with ESL endorsements. Also, I have a Methods in TESOL/TEFOL Certificate from Augustana College.

Elementary Math

Did well as a high school freshman in Math. Took 2 courses in Algebra at the university level, and received an 'A' and 'B', respectively. Currently tutoring a 5th grader in Math. Also, assisted her in preparing for the ISAT exam.

Elementary (K-6th)

My experience is that I did my mini-teaching for 8 weeks teaching a 4th grade class at Immaculate Conception. I also completed my student teaching at Boone Elementary School in Chicago for an 8th grade class. I prepared, wrote lessons each day and taught the lessons under the supervision of a CPS teacher. I also taught EFL in Japan to elementary and high school students.

Social Studies

I have prepared lessons and taught Social Studies to both 5th and 8th graders at Immaculate Conception and Boone Elementary, respectively, in Chicago during my student teaching experience. I also have a B.A. in History and minored in Political Science at UIC.
