My name is Randi, and I am an experienced guitar teacher who has a fun, yet thorough and engaging approach to teaching music and guitar playing.

I am a recent transplant to Chicago by way of NYC. I've worked at some of the most prestigious schools teaching children guitar (The Dalton School, 92nd St Y, NYC Guitar School), as well as established a private clientele of wonderful students with whom I developed strong relationships.

My approach comes from a singer-songwriter perspective: By playing songs the students like, they stay interested and motivated, which is the most important part in making progress!

Creativity is highly encouraged. Many of my students write their own songs while learning the basic tenets of guitar-playing, as well as some music theory. With songwriting, the child not only learns how to play the guitar, but also song structure (how to organize thoughts and concepts), grammar and creative writing (alliteration, rhyme schemes, cadence and more). Your child may not be interested in songwriting which is fine since learning to play their favorite songs gives countless hours of joy on its own. The most important thing is that your child enjoys the whole experience!

As someone who has worked with children in many different capacities (including my field work for Child Psychology courses at NYU and volunteer tutoring I currently do at a school), I have a way of bringing out each child’s potential and my encouragement has always been a source of self-confidence for them. I look forward to bringing out the best in your child through music.

Guitar

I have taught guitar for over 8 years. I had taught at NYC Guitar School, being one of their top 3 teachers for several years in a row (they kept student retention statistics and I was in the top 3 out of 40 teachers). I've taught classes and one-on-one lessons at prestigious schools and institutions, such as the Dalton School and the 92nd St Y in NYC. At some point, I started teaching privately. Word of mouth recommendations were so wonderful that my demand for private clients increased and I began to solely teach privately, and in doing so, created a thriving business.

I am a recent transplant to Chicago so I had to leave behind my business teaching private lessons in NYC. Now that I'm here, I hope to bring the joy of music to the kids of Chicago!

I am a patient teacher who serves as a great source of encouragement and support to all of my students. My creative style delivers tailor-made lessons for each student to fit their unique personality and needs.

I have taught a kids rock band camp and I currently volunteer teaching kids at 826Chi. I have a lot of experience working with children and I have a special gift connecting with them.

I am also a skilled singer, songwriter and performer. I have three full length albums out, as well as three EPs -- all featuring my original music. I have toured the US and Europe and I have opened for bigger-named acts, and I have played the Milwaukee Summer Fest. In a nutshell, I have real life experience to bring to the table, in addition to my skills and gifts as a teacher.

Some former student testimonials:

My all-time favorite activity to do with students is songwriting. With songwriting, the child not only learns how to play the guitar, but also song structure (how to organize thoughts and concepts), grammar and creative writing (alliteration, rhyme schemes, cadence and more). ...not to mention, it becomes a bit of a music therapy session, as they write about things that matter to them and are actually quite candid with me and have a chance to express their frustrations, passions and fears/anxieties. As someone who has worked with children in many different capacities (including my field work for Child/Adolescent Psychology courses at NYU), I have a way of bringing out each child’s potential and my encouragement has always been a source of self-confidence for them.

I am a patient and supportive teacher with a fun, easy-going attitude (and I never patronize students -- kids are smart!!). My creative style delivers tailor-made lessons for each student to fit their unique personality and needs.
