About William

Welcome students and parents,

Thanks for checking out my profile!
My name is Will, and I would be excited to start tutoring for you.

My areas of expertise are math and science, especially physics. I have had a lot of academic success in those areas personally, throughout my educational experience, from elementary school through earning my bachelor's from MIT. So, my own understanding and mastery of mathematics and physics is very strong.

I was raised in a family of teachers so I have a lot of experience thinking about how students learn, including the variety of learning styles people have. And I have a lot of experience working with children through summer camp and through church programs. In high school and college I tutored for people of varying ages, both for pay and on a volunteer basis. In the past two years, I have gained additional experience working with high school and college students in mathematics and science. I love seeing a student through to the point of breakthrough where they finally get understanding of a topic.

Many people believe that they cannot ever understand math and science, but in so many cases I think it's because they just haven't had it explained to them the way they needed. I believe that virtually any student can succeed in these subjects if they are taught the right way for them. Students do not have to hate math or be afraid of it. It's actually really fun once you start to get it!

My goal with students is to get them to really understand concepts and be able to work with those concepts themselves. This deeper understanding is the key to success in these subjects.

I hope to hear from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Physics

Physics is definitely my specialty. It was my major at MIT and is one of the areas I have done more tutoring. After years of thinking about the concepts of physics and explaining them to others, I am skilled at making them clear to students.
Physics can be tough, but with good instruction success is definitely possible.

SAT Math

Math is one of my strongest subjects for tutoring. Back in high school I got an 800 on this section of the exam. I can definitely help you work on trouble areas and hopefully boost the score.

Very helpful. — I met with William several times to review for the AP Calculus exam. William was always very helpful and answered my questions fully. He was also very adept at providing alternate explanations or ways to remember certain topics. I would highly recommend him. ...
