English

I can help you with anything English related, be it Language Arts, literature, grammar, or writing. I am familiar with all stages of the essay writing process and can teach you how to best organize your thoughts and ideas; I can help you develop skills in reading comprehension and analysis of literature of all kinds (poetry, British literature, American literature, contemporary forms of literature, and even Young Adult novels); and I can teach you the ins and outs of grammar/spelling/punctuation depending upon your needs.

Grammar

I have multiple grammar handbooks to use as tools to bring you the most up-to-date and easy-to-understand grammar rules. Whether you are working on DOL and grammar exercises, or just don't see the point of using a semicolon in your paper, I can help you answer all your grammar questions.

Literature

I am an English major with a special interest and focus in literature. I can help you with every step of the process, from reading and understanding content to analyzing and critiquing the text, its author, and its historical context. My personal favorite is American literature, and I have a lot of experience with Young Adult literature, plays and British literature. I am also well-versed in both literary and poetic devices and can help you learn to use these tools to analyze the texts you read.

Proofreading

I am happy to proofread your essays for you at any step of the process. I can offer suggestions for revision and reorganization at a midway point during your essay, and I can also offer fine-tuned editing for grammar, spelling, and punctuation after the completion of your essay.

I am willing to both meet in person to proofread face-to-face as well as email suggestions and comments using the "Comments" function of Microsoft Word. We can discuss further options for proofreading when you decide to hire me.

Reading

I will bring age- and grade-appropriate reading materials and strategies for comprehension that you can continue to use beyond our sessions and beyond this class. As a certified tutor in the CRISS methodology, I will help you learn comprehension, vocabulary-building, and analysis skills that will benefit you in all of your subject areas.

Study Skills

I am certified in the CRISS methods, a teaching program that seeks to develop student-owned, individualized study strategies and skills. The goal of the program--very much in line with my own goal as a tutor--is to find the best strategies that work for each student, so that s/he may continue to grow and learn even beyond the lesson, the class, or the grade level. I teach my students how to take better, more effective notes in class and during homework assignments; how to develop reading comprehension strategies that will work for all disciplines and types of texts; and how to approach writing assignments in logical, organized, and coherent ways.

How do I receive a discount?

Save between 5 and 15% on tutoring by purchasing credit with one of our prepaid discount packages. You can buy one of our standard 5, 10 or 15% packages or customize your own package based on how much tutoring you need. The credit you purchase can be used towards any tutor at any time and does not expire. If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
