Effective English Tutor in Reading, Writing, and Test Prep Skills

My name is Kendra, and I want to help you succeed in your least favorite subject, English.

If grammar and syntax are terms that send shivers down your spine, a 5-paragraph essay is giving you the chills, or you're having a hard time staying interested in "To Kill a Mockingbird," I'm your girl. I really love this stuff, and, with my help, you will learn to think of your Language Arts class as an old friend rather than a foe.

I recently graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature. After working for years as a tutor in high school and gaining invaluable teacher education at my previous college (Saint Xavier University), I am excited to work with WyzAnt to help you learn to read and write better. I favor a hands-on approach to tutoring and aim not only to help you with your current school assignments but also to help you build your English skills for your future successes. Grammar

I have multiple grammar handbooks to use as tools to bring you the most up-to-date and easy-to-understand grammar rules. Whether you are working on DOL and grammar exercises, or just don't see the point of using a semicolon in your paper, I can help you answer all your grammar questions.

Reading

I will bring age- and grade-appropriate reading materials and strategies for comprehension that you can continue to use beyond our sessions and beyond this class. As a certified tutor in the CRISS methodology, I will help you learn comprehension, vocabulary-building, and analysis skills that will benefit you in all of your subject areas.

English

I can help you with anything English related, be it Language Arts, literature, grammar, or writing. Literature

I am an English major with a special interest and focus in literature. I can help you with every step of the process, from reading and understanding content to analyzing and critiquing the text, its author, and its historical context. My personal favorite is American literature, and I have a lot of experience with Young Adult literature, plays and British literature. I am also well-versed in both literary and poetic devices and can help you learn to use these tools to analyze the texts you read.

Proofreading

I am happy to proofread your essays for you at any step of the process. I can offer suggestions for revision and reorganization at a midway point during your essay, and I can also offer fine-tuned editing for grammar, spelling, and punctuation after the completion of your essay.
