As your dedicated tutor, I am excited to help you learn to write well and to express your ideas clearly and concisely. I have done so for students from grammar school through doctoral level programs for the past 25+ years as a teacher, mentor, honors program coordinator and faculty member of an urban university, as well as in the capacity of both committee member and chair of more than 30 doctoral dissertations since 1999 submitted to several universities.

You CAN learn to write well! Every type of writing has a purpose and a style. Once you understand the task (reason why you are writing), the audience (for whom you are writing), and the word or page limitations, you will be able to master any paper, no matter its theme or complexity. A brief guide may help you to get started: 1)What does the paper have to do? (Sell an idea, tell a story, prove a point, provide information); 2)For who's benefit or knowledge is the paper being designed? (For your teacher, for a group of executives, for a review board of a publishing company, for classmates, for submission to a local newspaper); 3)What are the size limitations? (Five paragraph essay, 5-8 pages double-spaced, 400 words, 100 pages)

I can help you to develop your ideas in an organized and focused way, provide citation and authoritative support for your work, and refine the writing to satisfy each of the "styles" as required, whether Turabian, MLA or APA. I can also help you to understand and interpret, as well as synthesize and analyze, complex literature and develop the ability to prepare for qualifying exams that require higher thinking and comprehension skills.

Writing

You can learn to write with clarity and focus. There is a formula for good writing, and once you learn this, your papers will become easier and more interesting to read!

Good writing takes an idea, develops it for the reader, makes a point, wraps it up, and leaves the reader wanting to read your next written work.

Psychology

I have earned a doctorate in clinical psychology with specialization in children and adolescents, marriage and family, and more recently acquired work in grief, loss, death and dying.

Elementary (K-6th)

IL State Teaching certification earned in 1988. Experience teaching in Chicago Public Schools, 7th grade, Pre-School, Head Start, Chicago Park District children's after school programs, Grades k-12.

Phonics

Phonics is the study of the sounds made by letters of the alphabet when seen alone as well as when joined with other letters to form phonemes, or blended sounds, or words.

My undergraduate degree is in Speech, Communications, Theatre, and English. Following my earning the BA, I returned to complete teacher training and became certified in Language Arts, Literature, Humanities, and Social Studies.
