Algebra 1 is an introductory course where many foundational skills and concepts of mathematics are learned. These skills are very important as they will be used for critical thinking, problem solving, and synthesis down the road. Some of these concepts include: linear equations, inequalities, graphing, quadratic functions, exponents, logarithmic and exponential equations, and factoring.
Algebra 2, also known as Intermediate Algebra, is the next step in the mathematical maturity of a student. Many of the skills learned in Algebra 1 are reviewed during the early stages. However, this course requires multiple concepts and skills to be used in problems that require a higher level of critical thinking. Hence, there is a greater emphasis on multiple-step problem solving using concepts that were previously learned and concepts that will be further explored.
To be brief, calculus is the mathematical study of change. Therefore it is very helpful and useful to understand its concepts. It is the mathematical foundation of higher level learning in anything involving physics, engineering, business, economics, the sciences, and so on.
Elementary Math is the fundamental beginning of math concepts that will be used throughout a student's academic career. Elementary grade students begin to learn about topics such as: fractions, percentages, early geometry, early algebra, etc.
I've read that everything in the universe can be measured geometrically, which is not the case for any other type of math. So I guess you can say it is very important. Geometry is all about understanding space, shapes, and structures using different math concepts to measure and problem solve.
I have been playing guitar for almost 11 years now. I did not take classes, but I am self taught in various aspects of music through books, online research, videos, and many talented musicians I have come across over the years. I first started playing guitar when I was 12 years old. For the next few years I played in a band with two close friends. I have also played with two bands in the past year, and am currently the lead guitarist/vocalist for a new band, and rhythm/lead guitarist for another. One of these new bands, 89Minds, is a collaborative music project I am very excited about. It involves conceptual themed music and performances, infusing music with live accompanying visuals. Though I have not taken class-room guitar lessons, I feel highly qualified in teaching beginner guitar lessons to young students. My strengths are in guitar theory, ear training, exercise discipline, and music composition. Teaching not only offers me the ability to share what I've learned with others, but also the chance to continue learning a subject I am passionate about. I enjoy meeting new people and would hope that becoming a guitar teacher for kids would not only allow me to make some new friends, but to help those friends express themselves creatively through the instrument.
Precalculus is a course that prepares students for Calculus by expanding on topics such as Advanced Algebra, Trigonometry, and Analysis. Since it is a preparatory course, it is important to grasp the concepts that are taught because they will be fundamental when applied to Calculus.
