ESL/ESOL

I can assist students with Business English including coaching in presentations, meetings, and negotiations. I can also help with English for specific purposes including marketing & advertising, HR, and other subjects.

French

I am passionate about the French language and have taught high school, university and adult level courses.

My training is in French language and literature (BA - University of Pennsylvania, MA - University of Washington) with a study year in Aix-en-Provence, France. My ability level is "near-native."

Having lived in Paris and traveled all over France, I understand French culture and customs inside and out.

My teaching philosophy is student-centered, and I tailor courses to suit my students' needs.

Grammar

Grammar doesn't have to be boring! Learn grammar in context by reading and listening. Yes, there are rules, but it's also like a puzzle - fun!

TOEFL

I have expertise in TOEFL instruction and preparation -- specify the skill you wish to improve!

Vocabulary

Expanding your vocabulary is a necessary process in achieving higher levels of communication in English. Learning a word means not only a definition, but at least 6 other dimensions, such as formality, usage, synonyms, antonyms, part of speech, etc. My approach makes the words come alive.

Writing

Business letters? Emails? College Essays? Whatever the format, your writing needs to be clear and concise. Learn both how to structure your writing task and to make it sparkle!

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
