Making learning fun is key for any student. Academic success comes naturally when the student discovers the love of learning. Creating a positive atmosphere is key to building this foundation.
Dreading a subject can be reduced or even avoided by finding strengths. Understanding that there are many types of intelligence opens the way to individualized teaching methods. Starting from these positives allows the student to learn difficult concepts. This builds self-confidence and helps me customize the learning experience.
Finding the special gifts that every person has is the key to build from positive experiences to learn difficult concepts. For example, a visually oriented student may have a history of dreading math but can also realize that they are actually excellent at geometry because of the visual gifts they possess.
Some may learn best by sitting still, listening and taking notes, while for others this is the cause of test anxiety. If learning a song or clapping your hands helps memorization; I say let's do it!
