Hello! My name is Anne, I'm twenty-four years old and a recent graduate of Northwestern University. My undergraduate degree is in music--vocal performance and music history--but music is only one of several subjects that I am qualified to teach.
I spent the 2011-2012 school year studying in Paris on a music grant, and along the way became fluent in French, with a nearly-native accent. I began learning the language when I was seven years old and continued my study through my freshman year of college, when I studied French literature. I have a strong grasp of the ins and outs of French grammar, and I earned both a 790 on the SAT 2 and a 5 on the Advanced Placement exam in French Language. Throughout my education, I have had so many exceptional French teachers who taught me not only to speak but also to love the language, and I am so excited to share this passion with my own students.
English grammar is another of my specialties—and bad grammar is one of my pet peeves! I studied it intensively growing up, and in high school I received top scores on yearly grammar exams. I achieved an 800 on the SAT 2 in Writing (which is now part of the regular SAT). During my senior year of high school, I wrote and submitted a history paper to the Concord Review, including a bibliography; I have extensive experience with revising, proofreading and editing from both high school and college courses. To top it all off, I’m the person my friends contact when they need a proofreader or editor! I’m also a colossal bookworm and library geek, with a particular penchant for British literature. I also achieved a 5 on the Advanced Placement exam in English literature. My love of books and language makes me an ideal tutor for subjects ranging from elementary reading and spelling to high school-level literature and grammar.
In addition to my traditional academic areas of expertise, I am also qualified to teach voice lessons, basic music theory, music history, and beginning piano (seven years of lessons, upper-level keyboard skills at Northwestern).
