I studied music at Bowdoin College, and received my Master's degree in Music Composition from Butler University. I have been playing the guitar for almost 14 years in a variety of styles, everything from rock, jazz and blues to classical and Latin music. I thoroughly enjoy playing music and sharing my enthusiasm with others, making sure to encourage creativity and adapt my lessons to each student's needs and interests.

In addition to playing music, I am also a huge fan of math, everything from pre-algebra up to pre-calculus. I love working out problems and finding solutions, and helping others understand all of the shortcuts and tricks involved.

The Spanish language is another big interest of mine, having studied it in high school and college. I also spent a semester living with a señora in Spain, which was absolutely amazing. It is a wonderful, diverse culture and an extremely useful language to be able to speak, read and write.

Spanish

I studied conversational and written Spanish in high school and college, and spent a semester in Spain living with a Spanish señora. I have a great deal of experience speaking, writing and reading the language, and took a class on Latin American cultures. We can work on vocabulary, grammar, syntax and idioms to comfortably converse with other Spanish speakers and read and write Spanish text.

Music Theory

I studied Music Theory in high school, college and graduate school, and got a 5 on my Music Theory AP exam. One cannot truly understand and appreciate music until one has analyzed scores and studied the relationships between instruments, notes, melodies and chords. Composition (Music)

I received my Master's Degree in Music Composition from Butler University, spending two years writing for various instruments and ensembles. I have studied tonal composition, writing fugues, piano sonatas and lieder, as well as post-tonal composition utilizing more modern techniques such as cells, serialism, graphic scores and performance art. I write songs in all styles, from rock, blues and jazz to latin and hip-hop.

I studied music in college, and received my Master's Degree in Music Composition from Butler University. I have been playing the guitar for almost 14 years, and am also comfortable playing the piano and electric bass. I am extremely passionate about music, from the history and theory to writing and performing.
