K-6 and ENL Tutor: Masters Degree and 6 Years Teaching Experience

I genuinely look forward to helping young students achieve their academic goals. With hard work and quality instructional support, the sky is the limit. I have a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Notre Dame and 6 years of classroom teaching experience. I have taught 2nd grade (all subjects) and 8th Grade English and Literature. State test results have shown significant growth for my students in reading. As a teacher in South America, I prepared over 100 8th grade students for The English Proficiency Exam. I received a certification in teaching English as a New Language, also from The University of Notre Dame.

I welcome working with students with special needs and use multi-modal, research based techniques. I believe all students can achieve great results with high expectations and personalized attention. I believe learning should be fun and the best teachers are those who inspire academic curiosity. Using various engagement techniques I can keep young scholars motivated while teaching the concepts and study skills that are essential for success in school and life.

In addition to classroom teaching, I have extensive experience tutoring individuals and small groups. I have worked with children aged 5-14. I treasure these opportunities to work one-on-one with students and see dramatic growth and improved confidence.

I am offering tutoring for phonics, math, reading, writing, social studies for students in pre-K through 8th grade. Also, I am qualified to support English language learners master language skills and prepare for school in the United States.

ESL/ESOL

I hold a certification in Teaching English as a New Language from the University of Notre Dame.

I taught 8th grade English (as a Foreign Language) in Santiago, Chile for 1.5 years. I prepared more than 100 students for the English Proficiency Exam.

I also worked as a private tutor in Chile, helping children aged 5-16 improve English reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Literature

ACT Reading

I scored above 30 on the ACT when I was in high school and was admitted to a top 20 university.

I recently took the GRE and scored in the 93rd percentile for verbal reasoning.

Elementary Math

In addition to completing mathematics coursework as part of my Masters program, I taught 2nd grade math for 2 years (2006-2008). I have also worked with children with special needs in mathematics (dyslexia, lead poisoning, learning disabled, ESL learners).

I have passed the Praxis exam for Elementary Education in Mathematics and currently hold state certification.
