I have a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School as well as 30 hours of Bible and Theology in my undergraduate degree from Nyack College.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified elementary education teacher with the state of Illinois and have 4 years experience teaching elementary school.

Elementary Math

I am a certified Elementary teacher who has been trained in methods of teaching Math, and I also have experience teaching math as a classroom teacher and as a substitute teacher.

English

I have worked for several years as a teacher and as a tutor in Reading, Phonics, Writing and Grammar. I am a certified teacher with an endorsement in Language Arts. I taught both middle school and early elementary students and have tutored all ages in writing and grammar.

GED

I am a certified teacher for grades K-9 and have several years experience teaching Middle School students. I have been trained in teaching methods, have experience with a wide variety of curricula and multiple ways to solve math problems. I find that much of the GED test is a matter of thinking logically and with common sense. As someone who went back to school after 20 years, I understand the struggles that adult students encounter.

Grammar

Language Arts, including Grammar and Writing, is my specialty. I was well trained in grammar as a student myself and excel in assisting my students in improving their own grammar. I have often assisted others by editing their writing for grammar and usage and helping them to write on a more scholarly level.

Phonics

I have worked as a reading teacher and reading tutor using Words Their Way and other curricula.
I have experience with all elementary grade levels in phonics.

Prealgebra

I taught 6th grade last year including math. I am currently tutoring two middle school students in pre-algebra. I have been trained to teach math using a variety of methods.

Reading

I taught Reading and Language Arts to middle school students for 3 years, then spent a year as a reading tutor for Kindergarten through 6th graders. I have an additional year of experience as a classroom teacher.

Social Studies

I am certified in Middle School Social Studies with the state of Illinois. I have a BA in Social Science, which included courses in government, philosophy, psychology, sociology, history, and anthropology. I completed an elementary certification program at Northeastern Illinois University with a history minor. My courses include History of Precolonial SubSaharan Africa, US History, Western Civilization, Church History: World, United States, Great Britain, and India; and History of Christian Missions.

Spelling

I am a certified teacher for grades K-9 and have several years experience teaching spelling and phonics, including word study. As a classroom teacher I expanded my students' vocabularies, teaching them how to determine a word's meaning from its prefix, root word and suffix.

As a classroom teacher I expanded my students' vocabularies, teaching them how to determine a word's meaning from its prefix, root word and suffix. Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
