Through years of tutoring during my college days, and years of being a coach and mentor during my professional career, I learned that understanding the basic concept is much more important than just knowing how to solve a particular problem. Once you have a grasp of the basic concept and gain the insight, you not only improve your scores and grades, you get to appreciate the beauty of math and science and remember the concepts for life. You become a curious person and a life-long learner. I want to be your partner in that path.

I earned my Master from MIT and my Ph.D. from Notre Dame in theoretical physics and I love math and physics. Getting a good education is the most important task for a youngster. It very much determines one's future career. I want to help you in that process. I am a patient and good listener. As your tutor, I view your success and failure as mine. Let us take that journey together.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT test is an important test for you to get into a good college. I will help you to pick preparatory material and help you to study and drill on the ACT quiz. I will explain the wrong answers you get and help you to understand why you are wrong. With firm understanding of the concept and with practice, you will steadily improve your ACT test scores.

Since the ACT is a test on all basic math, you need a tutor who understand the entire spectrum of math. With my Ph.D. in theoretical physics, I know all aspects of math to help you understand all important math concepts in the ACT test.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is an important foundation for calculus. Therefore, it is essential to understand the concepts in both Algebra 1 and 2. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, you will master algebra 2 and go on to pre-calculus with ease and interest.

Calculus

Having a solid foundation in calculus is important for doing well in science and engineering later on. Therefore, it is very important to understand the concepts in calculus. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, you will master the subject. When facing with new problems in the future, you could always figure it out using the concepts and techniques learned in calculus.

I will explain the concepts in different ways and from different angles to help you grasp them. I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from U. Notre Dame and understand all aspects of applied mathematics.

My time is flexible and I am patient. I view your success and failure as mine. I don't accept failure, neither should you!

Chemistry

Chemistry is based on physics, such as quantum mechanics' description of the electron configuration. However, chemistry goes far beyond physics in studying the behavior of the valence electrons and how they contribute to the chemical properties of compounds. As a Ph.D. theoretical physicist, I have not only studied college level chemistry and tutored many students in the past, but also continuously read about the latest development in chemistry, especially biochemistry.
The application aspect of chemistry is so relevant to our everyday life from the air we breathe to the food we eat, to the genes we inherit. As your tutor, I want to make chemistry so interesting to you that you won't stop learning about it.

Finance

Finance is all about teaching the fundamental concepts used in the modern financial world, including time value of money, various investment instruments (bonds, stocks, and derivatives), capital structure, economics and portfolio management.

I have taken MBA classes at the University of Chicago for two years. I can help you with many concepts of finance.

Geometry

Geometry is a fun subject. It has a lot of applications in real daily life. Therefore, besides helping you with theorem to understand the concepts, I will also give practical examples to help you to apply and remember them. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, you won't forget them.

GMAT

GMAT is very important for getting into a good MBA program. Therefore, you need a tutor who had taken GMAT before and enrolled in a top MBA program (the Univ. of Chicago MBA program.)

I know how to help you prepare for the GMAT test, especially if you are weak in the area of quantitative reasoning and analysis. I, being a physicist, am steeped in math of all areas. I can help you in understanding the math reasoning and in tackling quantitative problems.

We will start with a good test preparation book, such as the one by GMAC or Kaplan. We will continue to drill on practice problems and I will point out the mistakes you have made and explain the correct ways of thinking about and solving the problem. Over time, you will steadily improve your scores with discipline and practice.

Physics

Physics is often more difficult than math. It requires some insights into the law of physics. You could acquire these insights either by yourself with some serious thinking and considerable amount of time or someone could give you hints and point you to the right direction. That is when a physicist can help you with.

Once you gain that insight, the Ah-ha moment will come and the joy of learning physics will be with you.

I am here to help you with that insight and with some drills.

Precalculus

Having a solid foundation in pre-calculus is important for doing well in calculus. Therefore, it is very important to understand the concepts in pre-calculus. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, you will master both subjects.

Probability

Probability is a fun subject. It has a lot of beneficial applications in real life. Therefore, besides helping you with theorem to understand the concepts, I will give many practical examples to help you to apply and remember them. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, it becomes natural for you to think of many events in probabilistic way.

SAT Math

The SAT is an important test that you need to do well on to get into a good college. I will help you to pick a preparatory material and help you to study and drill on the SAT quiz. I will explain the wrong answers you get and help you to understand why you are wrong. With firm understanding of the concept and with practice, you will steadily improve your SAT test scores.

Since the SAT is a test on all basic math, you need a tutor who understand the entire spectrum of math. With my Ph.D. in theoretical physics, I know all aspects of math to help you understand all important math concepts in the SAT test.

Statistics

Statistics are used so often in many research projects that one has to be proficient in knowing how to use it to analyze data and to interpret results.

As a theoretical physicist, I will help you to understand all topics of statistics from probability distributions to hypothesis testing, to Chi-square analysis to regression and correlation. I will explain the underlining reasons for using various methods and point out the relationship among them.

Once you understand the concepts, I will help you to master the subject with many drills so you will ace any exams.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a fun and practical subject. It has a lot of applications in real life, such as figuring out the height of a building at a distance. Therefore, besides helping you with theorem to understand the concepts, I will also give practical examples to help you to apply and remember them. Once you understand the concepts and with the help of a few drills, you could remember all the trig formulas even.
