My name is Kristen and I love helping others and working with children, which is why I went into the teaching field. I love education and that look on a persons face when they learn something new or finally understand a topic that was previously difficult for them. I have a passion for teaching children and I love to help people, this is why I have always wanted to be a teacher. Some of my greatest memories have been in a classroom lead by an extraordinary teacher; in turn this has made me want to become a great teacher as well. I think there is something very sacred in the art of teaching and guiding a student in the learning process. It is something to be taken seriously and should never be taken lightly. I believe that all students are unique and can learn and it is up to me, as a teacher, to differentiate instruction so that all my students can succeed in and outside of the classroom. I believe in educating the whole child not just mentally, but holistically.
I currently work as a Title 1 teacher at St. Elizabeth Elementary School; I pull out students grades K-8th from their general education classrooms for extra support in reading and math. Using the Learn It System curriculum, I develop a plan to help each student strengthen his or her academic abilities. I worked at the Montessori Academy of Chicago for four years; there I learned what it takes to become an educator. Some of the important qualities I have learned are patience, understanding, caring, teaching as a guide, utilizing materials, differentiating instruction, and time management. I am excited to use these skills in my future teaching and tutoring positions. I believe as a teacher we should never stop learning. I want to instill this concept in my students so that they want to become lifelong learners. My hope as a teacher is to be a positive catalyst for change in my student’s lives and to help them understand the importance of a good education, not just for their own lives, but for the future of this nation. My model is that everyone can learn, you just have to find the correct method and everyone learns at their own pace. I hope to get to know you better whether you are a parent with a child looking for a tutor or a adult looking for a tutor. My specialities are catering to specific education needs, I have worked with students with ADHD, mild autism and behavioral disorders as well. My teaching stay is simply I start from where you are, develop a plan that works best for you and only you, and I try to make it fun and interesting at the same time.
