I am an experienced young Elementary School teacher looking for tutoring opportunities while I am off for summer break. I was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, and then participated as a Corps Member with Teach for America. I taught for two years in rural Mississippi and am now entering my second year at a distinguished school in the greater Chicago area. I am passionate about education for all students, and am looking to provide high-quality, fun, enthusiastic tutoring for students in any/all subjects. I greatly anticipate working with parents and children to create a dynamic, personalized, targeted plan of action for academic success. While many students have specific areas of need, such as mathematics or grammar or writing support, equally many students benefit from a wider, more encompassing survey of support and instruction in their tutoring experience. If on Monday it is grammar that needs an extra push, and on Wednesday it's math to prep for a big math test, and on Thursday it's a quick hands-on review of a science project, students will receive the tutoring support they need, when they need it, with this general elementary tutoring support. Students who struggle with organization and time management will benefit from tutoring instruction on how to keep and maintain organizational systems inside and outside of the classroom. Just as I instruct my students in the classroom on how to use a simple but efficient numbering/labeling system to keep paperwork (assignments, syllibi, notes, homework, etc.) neat and tidy, I will provide support and instruction on an individual level to keep students empowered and motivated to maintain their own organization. Additionally, I will provide support in time management and prioritization; many students struggle to determine the priority or necessity of their work time, and I will instruct and emphasize the importance of a focused, sustained system to maximize learning and minimize distraction and loss of focus.
