My name is Matthew C., and I have been in education for over a decade in some form or another. I have been a teacher for 6 years and an advisor for 4 years. I truly believe that all students can learn given the proper tools and motivation. I feel that we sometimes are our own worst enemy. No one can make you feel inferior unless you let them, and quite a few of my students have felt that way but through my encouragement and motivation, they have realized within themselves that they can learn and they can like science.
In my teaching career, I have taught nearly every type of science imaginable. My major in college was biology with a minor in general science. With that degree, I have taught multiple sections of biology, physical science, Earth science, physics, chemistry, and zoology. My experience with students has taught me that no student is identical to another. I try especially when tutoring my students to examine not only their immediate needs but also what is the root of the problem. Was their issue due to a misconception needing to be explained properly, or was it from a totally new concept in which they are unfamiliar with and thus confused? I am also well versed in different learning theories and learning styles. Not everyone does well with lecture-based education, so it is up to the instructor to facilitate the best course of action to help the student learn.
In summation, I am a jack-of-all trades in science with a mastery in biology. I truly believe any student can turn his or her untapped potential into reality if given the chance. I look forward to assisting any future student in achieving their educational goals.
