I am a graduate student working on my PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. I am capable of tutoring in many fields, but my areas of specialty are in psychology and statistics. I am proficient in SPSS. I have written extensive conference papers, and I am working on journal publications.

I have taught undergraduate classes, and I have a background in training and development for education and corporations. I have some experience providing one-on-one tutoring sessions in statistics and undergraduate writing. I have recently tutored two undergraduate psychology students in research design, writing empirical papers, and understanding basic statistical concepts.

My approach is to understand what the needs and areas for improvement are in my new students. I work from there, explaining concepts, answering questions, and helping the students to learn the material. If I give an answer to a question, I explain how I came to that decision. I believe in the utility of practice. Ultimately, I want my students to develop expertise in the areas in which we work.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Needlework

Providing beginner's knitting lessons. Learn how to make slip knots, cast on, knit, purl, seed stitch, ribbing, and more.

I have been knitting for over 7 years. My approach includes starting out with foundational work. The student will learn how to make a slip knot and cast on their first row. The first lesson will be dedicated to learning this. Repetition is key with craft work, and it is a big part of each lesson. Next, we will work on making a swatch (a large square of fabric). After we have mastered the swatch, we will pick a simple project (hat, scarf) and apply the skills developed in initial lessons.

SPSS

I have been working with SPSS for several years. Whether you need help with t-tests, ANOVAs correlations, or factor analysis, I can help.

Study Skills

Study skills is necessary for academic success at any level. I will use my knowledge of cognitive psychology and experience as an individual with a professional degree to help students develop their study skills.

Lessons will incorporate work on the following:

- analysis of attention.
- development of attention skills
- test-taking best practices
- getting organized
- developing a study plan
- learning how to pace out study time
- the difference between memorizing material and learning it
- the importance of practice.

<p>Out of all the stats options out there (R, JMP, SAS, Excel, and so many more), I prefer the one I have been using for nearly 10 years: SPSS.  The younger generation may know it as PASW.  Why do I prefer this method over the others?  It is easy to use, but it maintains the integrity of the stats process.  I am not by nature a coder.  SPSS makes it easy to write... read more
