I am a graduate student at DePaul University pursuing my Master of Science degree in the Biological Sciences. In addition to my coursework, I conduct research in a neurobiology lab studying Alzheimer's Disease. I am also a graduate teaching assistant, instructing laboratory sections for undergraduate general biology and anatomy courses. As a TA, I hold office hours, allowing time for individual help for undergraduate students.
I graduated from Denison University with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. As an undergraduate, I was a general chemistry tutor. After that, I attended Judson University for my teaching certificate in science. I am certified to teach science in grades 6-12 and am endorsed in biology and chemistry.
For the last two years I was a high school science teacher instructing general and honors biology, advanced environmental science, and honors environmental research courses. I also tutored students in science during an advisory period as well as after school.
Although I enjoy working in the lab, I love teaching and intend on returning to education after receiving my master's degree in biology. One of my favorite things about teaching is figuring out ways to reach each student, especially when they do not think they like or understand science. I do this by individualizing strategies for each student's specific strengths to help them understand concepts. People are intelligent in many different ways. I will identify students' intelligences and help them find learning strategies that best suit them.
I am also interested in coaching soccer and have significant playing and coaching experience. I was a goalkeeper for a couple elite clubs in the Chicago suburbs, as well as in the Twin Cities. In both Minnesota and Illinois I made the state Olympic Development Program (ODP) teams for several years. In college, I played one year of Division III soccer until I experienced a career ending injury. After college, I served as an Assistant Coach for a college women's soccer program and high school girls' soccer program. I have also been a goalkeeper coach, holding individual training sessions and working at various soccer camps.
