Hello Students and Parents!
My name is Jamie N. and I am currently a student myself! I am a 3rd year Clinical, Forensic Doctoral Student at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. My speciality is working with children and Trauma as well as Personality and Risk assessments. I previously earned my Master's Degree in Forensic Psychology with an emphasis on Child Development. That's enough about my schooling, lets talk about yours!
If you or your child is having difficulties in the areas of English and Literature Comprehension, Reading, Writing, or Mathematics, I can certainly help. I am an energetic, compassionate and professional female who enjoys working with children and adolescents. I appreciate that everyone has their own skills and abilities. Perhaps one of the subjects listed above is not one of them...but that doesn't mean it can't be!
My approach involves breaking down the information processing of material. Often when students are stressed or the task at hand seems too dense or overwhelming, we do not capture the important facts or even basic information. For English, literature, and reading, I work with students to break down the material into smaller sections and draw conclusions and pull themes about the material. In regards to mathematics, we will work together to break the problems down, step by step, keeping in mind the over all purpose of the problem; it is easier to get there, when you know where you're going. Most importantly we work together to find real-life applications of the material we are working on. Once material has real meaning and application, it makes learning feel more useful!
I have worked with children and adolescents for the past 10 years in a variety of settings. In addition to being a camp counselor, I also nannied for several years, and volunteered as a tutor throughout college for English, reading and mathematics. I work daily with children and adolescents, helping each of them and their families to recover from and cope with life problems.
What makes me stand out form the rest? This is more fun for me than it is work. I find it enjoyable to work with children, adolescents and their families to instill motivation, self-efficacy, and success. I enjoy laughing, being playful and enjoy the challenge of making every activity more fun. I also find it rewarding to see student progress. Thanks so much for you time! Look forward to working with you!
