I am graduating May 2012 from Columbia College Chicago, and with two years of working in a learning studio under my belt! I have been employed through the school as a writing center tutor where I work one-on-one with students to strengthen their writing. I not only help with grammar, punctuation and formatting, but through weekly sessions help them grow as writers.
I spent my high school years working on both the yearbook and newspaper, and served as co-editor for both my last two years. In college I studied the art of writing, in both fiction and nonfiction, plays, television, analytical essays and research papers. I've become familiar with grammar and proofreading, as well as tips and tricks for the writing process. I took a class that trained students in the practice of tutoring, and we reviewed the history of writing center tutors, as well as different methods to consider when it comes to tutoring, and building interpersonal communication skills.
I'm very personable and great at working with students--no matter how shy or uncomfortable they might be. I try to read them and determine the best way to approach the session, in order to make it as enjoyable experience as possible. I love being able to use my skill to help others, especially when students find confidence in their writing or are able to write the paper they struggled with at first.
