Greetings to all those reading!

My name is Olivia and I have just returned home to the US after spending a year overseas teaching English as a foreign language to elementary school students in South Korea. Although I've lived in Korea for a year, my second language is actually Japanese.

I thoroughly enjoy studying language. My own enjoyment of language study was a big influence on choosing to teach English. Now that I am back in the US I would like to continue teaching and tutoring English as well as Japanese. Thank you for reading. :)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Teaching English to speakers of other languages has been my career of choice since the completion of my undergraduate degree. As a teacher, I feel it is important to not only understand the course material, but also understand the students' level and goal in the language acquisition process. Through my experiences teaching English overseas I have been able to develop ESL curriculum as well as implement successful lesson based around already establish curriculum. I have experience being the sole teacher in a classroom as well as co-teacher with another English teacher of a non-native speaker background. I have taught grades 1 through 6 as well as adult home room teachers of these grades.

Japanese

My focus with teaching the Japanese language is to build the student's foundation level and explore specific interest areas. I believe language learning should be more of a fun process than a painstaking one. I am also an advocate of introducing kanji (Chinese characters) immediately after the introduction of hiragana and katakana (Japanese syllabary. From day one I want my students to feel empowered with their knowledge of Japanese language and culture and continuously learn more. Ganbarimashou! (Let's do our best!)
