I have a Master's degree in Linguistics, and offer over 7 years of ESL teaching/tutoring experience. My students have consistently given me high marks for my ability to foster a safe learning environment—one which affords students many opportunities to use, explore, and critically think about English, thus making them more self-sufficient learners. Grammar, accent reduction, business/academic writing, and TOEFL preparation are also part of my instruction. I welcome students of all levels, and look forward to helping them become better speakers and learners.

For the past 20-plus years I have also worked as a graphic artist, which includes retouching high-end imagery, and designing and producing print collateral. Photoshop is my main program, although I am also quite comfortable using InDesign and Illustrator. If you are in need of tutoring in Creative Suite, I would look forward to talking with you about your needs. (Note: My Photoshop expertise includes compositing, using complex layers, tonal/color correcting, masking (using channels), techniques for sharpening imagery, and clipping.)

If you're looking for piano instruction, I have a Bachelor's degree in Music with an emphasis in piano performance, and have also taken courses at the graduate level for the same. I was fortunate to have studied with some highly regarded artists--some internationally renown! Naturally, as a performance major, I studied classical repertoire and have given many public solo performances...including performing with an orchestra. I welcome all levels.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I offer over 20 years of desktop publishing experience, which includes designing and producing artwork for print. I use Illustrator (along with Photoshop and InDesign) to produce various print collateral, particularly packaging materials for renown brands such Snickers (candy bar) wraps, Kellogg's food products, Fellowes CD Labels, and the like.

If you are in need of Illustrator help, I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your instructional needs.

Adobe InDesign

As a seasoned graphic artist, I use InDesign (along with Photoshop and Illustrator) to produce and design print collateral. InDesign is marvelous for producing pieces like catalogues, sales aids, periodicals, and other pieces which require templates, pagination, style sheets, ability to easily flow in/edit large amounts of text, and to manage incorporated imagery.

If you are in need of help using InDesign for print purposes, I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about your instructional needs. (Note: I also offer training using Photoshop and Illustrator.)

Adobe Photoshop

I offer over 10 years of Photoshop experience, which includes performing high-end retouching for nationally and internationally recognized brands (e.g., Snickers, Sony, International Truck, Starbucks, Miller Brewing, Kraft).

I know all practical aspects of Photoshop, including compositing (complex layers), tonal/color correcting, complex masking, and clipping. I can help you with virtually all your instructional needs.

Desktop Publishing

I offer over 20 years of desktop publishing experience, which includes designing and producing artwork for print. I use the mainstream graphics applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and have used (but it's been a while) QuarkXPress and other ancillary graphic arts applications.

My print experience is very strong, and one of my fortes is packaging production, where I have laid out mechanicals in Illustrator for Snickers (candy bar) wraps, Kellogg's food products, Fellowes CD Labels, and the like.

If you are in need of help with your desktop needs, I am sure I can be of great help.

English

I offer over 7 years of ESL teaching/tutoring all levels of instruction, in both university and business settings. Additionally, have a Master's degree in Linguistics, with coursework in ESL methods/materials and teaching strategies.

My teaching philosophy is based on a communicative approach, where the student is given ample opportunity to question, explore, and use English in a safe environment. Other areas of instruction include grammar, business/academic writing, accent reduction, and resume writing.

ESL/ESOL

Piano

I have a Bachelor's degree in Music, with a concentration in piano performance, and have also studied the same at the graduate level. My teachers/coaches were top-drawer artists, some of which who were in high demand as pedagogues. Naturally, as a performance major, I focused on learning classical repertoire for the piano, ranging from Bach to Mozart, Beethoven to Chopin, and Bartok to Rorem.

If you need help learning the basics, or if you are studying classical music at the advanced level, I am confident that I can help you with your learning needs.
