Hello! My name is Marie M., M.S. Before I say anything about my background, let me say that with me your child, or children, will find true "JOY" in learning. I will help them become super thinkers with all of the confidence of champions...Smile!
As a certified/licensed teacher in the States of Minnesota, Illinois and Iowa, I have over 20 years of professional teaching experience. I have a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in education and a M.S. degree in Teaching The Gifted.
While I specialize in math and science, I am also skilled in teaching all academic subjects on the preschool through elementary school levels. I am currently teaching as a substitute teacher in the public and private schools of Des Moines and Urbandale, Iowa. I work with children/students ages three to eighteen years old. In the area of science, I tutor college students and adults as well. When I was employed by The University of Chicago Science Teacher Education Program, I acted as a mentor for other educators in the art of teaching science. I have worked for public, private and Catholic schools alike.
As far as my teaching skills and style are concerned, I am told that "I have a gift of being able to take complex subjects and break them down into simple, easy to understand learning components". I guess I can safely say "My students love the way I teach". I believe that every student has a gift that can be supported and enhanced to expand his or her mind and heart for investigation and the acquisition of knowledge. I can clearly discern the budding talents in my students, and I am keenly aware of their individual learning styles. Then using this knowledge, I construct super compatible curricula for my students. I love to learn myself and am very versed in many concepts and subject areas.
