I am a professionally trained teacher and licensed with the Illinois State Board of Education for Elementary Education. My specialty is literacy instruction (reading, writing, and vocabulary). I am trained in the Balanced Literacy Framework by Fountas and Pinnell, which gives students a well rounded approach to literacy. I have taught in self-contained classrooms with a range from kindergarten to 4th grade. I believe that every single child has the capability of learning and growing in educational subjects if content is customized around their particular strengths that they possess. I also believe that tutoring and instruction should utilize a child's unique skills and gifts in order to make those skills stronger, rather than trying to get students to conform to something that does not feel relevant for them. My instruction and tutoring practice starts with building up a rapport with the student and working with the student to establish a meaningful goal for their academic progress. I then work hard to find activities that will target that students needs in a way that feels interesting and relevant to them and their learning style.
