I am a teacher of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, proofreading, and also literature. I hold a degree in literature and have made writing my career. I teach poetry and also work as a tutor. Teaching writing is my specialty!

Often, writing errors will prevent you from achieving your goals in life. I am here to help!

From a very young age, I have known how important writing skills can be for anyone's future. I will (1) show you examples of effective writing and point out why; (2) explain how effective writing moves logically from point A to point B and ends with a satisfying conclusion; (3) show you how to understand issues with basic grammar such as subject and verb agreement, pronoun usage, and how to avoid mistakes like sentence fragments; (4) and explain some commonly confused words and show you how to spot embarrassing mistakes and how to avoid them in the future.

Don't be embarrassed again by your writing mistakes. I can explain to you in simple terms how to make your writing something that makes you proud. I won't judge you. I don't criticize as I am teaching. Again, I will show you how to spot your own specific mistakes and show you how to avoid them. Vocabulary

Vocabulary, eh? Shall we "proceed" or "precede"? Are you tired of looking for the right word and then giving up in frustration? It's probably time to start building your vocabulary. Beyond mistakes involving commonly confused words, I can show you how your vocabulary provides the foundation to make others read what you've written and say, wow! Your vocabulary is the single most important skill that allows you to open some of life's most important doors.

Grammar

Let me help you with comma splices, apostrophe abuse, subject-verb agreement, coordinating and subordinating conjunctions, double negatives, misplaced modifiers, unclear antecedents, run-on sentences, and sentence fragments. I can explain what all of those terms mean and show you how to avoid these traps in your own writing.

Reading

Do you ever finding yourself rereading paragraphs and nothing seems to stick? I can show you how to identify the key phrases in paragraphs and passages that reveal the main ideas that will help you with comprehension portions of tests such as the ACT, SAT, and even the GRE. Don't waste another afternoon wading through writing without understanding it thoroughly. I can show you how to really dive in.

Writing

Let's talk about how your writing should flow logically from point A from point B and end with a conclusion. Have you ever gone on a long car trip and asked "Where are we going, anyway"? Your writing should flow smoothly and include logical transitions so your readers won't be asking the same question.

English

I can help you with English comprehension, which will allow you to excel on language portions of tests such as the SAT, ACT, and GRE.

Literature

Did you enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird and Fahrenheit 451 but didn't quite understand what all of the fuss was about? We can talk about themes in literature (and poetry, too). I can show you how studying a good story or poem is like exercise for your mind. You have to use it or lose it!

Proofreading

You've just finished writing an important paper but you know you should read it all through one more time before handing it in for an important grade. I can show you the important spelling and punctuation errors that often fall though the cracks. (Reread that last sentence and you'll see what I mean!) Good writers know that proofreading is key.
