Hello! My name is Sharika S. In college I majored in Premedical Sciences, Philosophy, and Bioethics at Loyola University Chicago. I scored a perfect 36 in the English section of the ACT and in the 93% percentile for Math when I was in high school. My GRE scores were of a similar percentile rank. I currently live in the Chicago area and enjoy reading, writing and drawing. I enjoy spending time with children and am getting back into playing the piano.
I have spent a great deal of time tutoring for not-for-profit institutions. The Better Boys Foundation in Chicago was my most recent tutoring experience for high school students in underprivileged neighborhoods. I have tutored students from kindergarten to eighth grade at the Vietnamese Association of Illinois as well as local YMCA programs. I am familiar with students who both have had English as a first or second language and can help students greatly in the areas of English, Science and Math. I have been tutoring for the past 6 years.
Having spent years tutoring students of all demographics, age groups and in a variety of subjects, I have developed a very focused and individualized teaching method. Every student is important to me and I believe education is the highest gift a child can receive. My approach involves meeting with students to understand problem areas, helping with homework while developing a plan for further assignments/work that will help the student be a self-sufficient problem-solver.
