Hello,
I'm Eddie and I'm an educator who has been out of the classroom for a little over a year. I graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) in the Spring of 2007 with a degree in English. From 2007 until 2010 I taught sixth-grade language arts, reading, and geography at Benito Middle School in Tampa, Florida. During my time in Florida, I earned certification to teach all subjects for students in grades K-6 and to teach English for students in grades 6-12. At the conclusion of my final year at Benito, I became tenured.
In the summer of 2010, I decided to take a leave of absence from my position to move to Chicago and pursue my love of improvisational acting and comedy. I've been in Chicago for a little over a year and have completed the professional improvisation programs at iO and Annoyance Theaters and am presently enrolled in the prestigious conservatory program at Second City. I perform regularly with One Group Mind at the Mayne Stage in Rogers Park and with Funny Bones Improv Troupe at Children's Memorial Hospital in Lincoln Park. Dedicating myself to improvisation full-time does not afford me the ability to also be a full-time teacher which is why I've decided to become a highly-qualified tutor.
As a classroom teacher, I showed a consistent track record of improving student standardized test scores in reading, writing and language arts. I would like to think that I was able to do this by encouraging a love of reading through creative exploration of literature and by fostering understanding of the full potential of the English language. I have a passion for helping students learn. I plan on combining my previous experiences as a classroom teacher with my current experiences as an artist to help students succeed.
