My name is Christie and I am looking to tutor some students in ESL! I am capable of tutoring all levels. I have experience working with children and adults. I am also currently halfway through receiving my TEFL Certification.
I studied at Indiana University and graduated in May 2009 with a concentration in Spanish, Portuguese, and International Studies. My junior year of college, I began to volunteer in a middle school ESL classroom guiding children from China and Afghanistan in reading, writing, and conversational English. This really sparked my interest in tutoring ESL.
After college, I traveled to Nepal (that is one of my little Nepalese students in my picture) where I taught English in a rural village and in an orphanage to children ages 5-18 for two months. This was very challenging as there were hardly any materials and the students did not speak any English. It was an extremely rewarding experience and I still email with a few of the older children today!
After arriving home from Nepal, I worked at Kaplan here in Chicago as a beginner's ESL teacher for adults all around the world. I taught 3 hours of grammar every morning and 2 hours of conversation in the afternoons.
I now work for a company that helps people get their TEFL Certification and go teach English abroad! I love teaching and working with people from other countries!
