I hold Elementary through High School teaching certifications within the states of Illinois, Massachusetts and California. I have had the rich experience of teaching students diverse in cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds, from Kindergarten through High School level. As an educator who is passionate about teaching and empowering children of all ages, I would welcome the opportunity to support you, as a student, or your child, to excel and achieve academic success.

I bring experience teaching English/ESL and Creative Writing, at the high school level; kindergarten, primary and elementary levels as well, and TOEFL and ESL to university level international students. I hold experience in teaching variations of Reading/Writing workshop and balanced literacy at primary, upper elementary and middle school levels. My experience also includes teaching study skills, test prep, and SAT writing and reading skills. I have developed a wide repertoire of teaching strategies and skills, in meeting developmentally appropriate needs of students, including adapting curriculum and teaching strategies and modifications for ELL and special education students. My teaching practice involves the application of a variety of informal and formal assessment tools, such as student portfolios, and additional authentic assessments. I teach from a student-centered, strengths-based empowerment model, and provide multiple opportunities for experiential learning and real life application, while meeting the individualized learning styles and needs of all students.

Career Development

I have experience in coaching, training, advising, and supporting professional adults (with a wide scope of industries and professional backgrounds) in their career and job search process. I delivered both group seminars and trainings in the area of career search and development, as well as specific search skills including interviewing, networking, marketing, resume editing and revision. College Counseling

I have taught, trained and advised students at the high school level, university level and adults beyond university.
In my role as a high school teacher, I supported many students in their transition to college.
I bring valuable and transferable skills in counseling, advising and coaching adults in their job and career search and transition, as well as cultural transitions. I trained and coached professional immigrant adults on transitioning into the American workplace while finding opportunities in their chosen professional field. I see such skills as directly transferable to supporting college level students in various areas of their academic and personal lives.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold Elementary certifications and have experience teaching at the elementary level. My undergraduate degree was in Elementary Education and Sociology. ESL/ESOL

I have taught English as a Second Language students of all ages within public, private and non-profit educational settings.
I hold teaching certifications in English and ESL at levels K-12, and have taught High School level English and ESL.
I have also taught ESL to adult and university level students within the private language school environment. My role as a trainer and program manager with an organization focused on empowering immigrant professional adults with the tools to re-enter their profession in the US, also provided opportunities to teach American business communication/English skills (writing, speaking and presenting/marketing oneself), and American business workplace expectations. I taught resume writing, interviewing and networking skills as well to American cultural norms and values.

Phonics

My experience as a certified elementary teacher well prepared me to teach literacy skills, as I have the experience of teaching reading, phonics and literacy to students from pre-kindergarten through elementary. I have also taught various reading strategies to students of all ages, including ESL and special needs students. Thanks.

Public Speaking

I am confident that I can effectively teach and support the development of students' public speaking skills. I have taught students at all levels, have experience as an adult trainer, and have coached immigrant professional adults on how to market themselves effectively in their career search, and in networking effectively. This has incorporated the essence of and specific techniques of speaking clearly, directly, with personality and energy, and with appropriate content to name a few key elements in effective public speaking. I have also served in several roles which required me to be a community liaison and spokesperson for organizations, as well as conduct community outreach through presentations to various constituents.

Sociology

I hold an undergraduate degree in Sociology and also have an MA in Intercultural Relations, which is an inter-disciplinary degree involving coursework in the areas of cultural studies, intercultural communication, and the sociology, psychology disciplines. My experiences in working within communities and as a teacher, trainer and program manager within direct service organizations provides a high level of direct application of the study of community and the way people interact within, in addition to my theoretical and conceptual frameworks and models. My graduate degree focuses primarily upon issues of race, culture and difference - all areas that I am competent to tutor in as well.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills at all levels from elementary through high school, including my experience as a public school teacher at these levels. I have also taught study skills within the context of a private educational consulting company serving students within private schools only, at grades 5th through post secondary.

Writing

I have taught English, Creative Writing, and ESL to students of all ages, ranging from high school through adult professionals. I am confident in my abilities to break down the writing process from brainstorming to writing a cohesive, logical essay.

Yoga

I am a certified 200-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) and registered with the Yoga Alliance. My areas of teaching center on hatha yoga, gentle hatha yoga, and restorative yoga.
