Dear Parents and Students,
My name is Kelly S. I am 23 years old, and I just finished up my senior year at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I majored in Biology and have completed a minor in Nuclear Science and Engineering. Here are some more quick facts about me before I describe my teaching methods and experience: I am originally from Southern California and just started a masters in teaching program this spring. I took this last year off to move to Chicago and get married to my college sweetheart, Garrett. I have always enjoyed school, and especially science and math. I come from a large family and have spent a few years as a nanny before coming to college. I love children, teaching, and volleyball.
I believe that the best way to learn something difficult, is through the use of great study habits and practice with both repetitive problems and real life examples. Before going to MIT I was involved in a college preparatory program called AVID. For six years I worked on my ability to manage time, organize my work, and study effectively. I use those skills every day. I am a very organized person and have always been known for my extreme commitment and positive attitude. This will be my first official tutoring job in math and science, but I have always helped tutor friends for free.
I have included volleyball in my list of abilities outside of schoolwork. I played 4 years on the varsity team in high school in Southern California, and 4 years on MIT's DIII varsity program. I have trained players for many years, and have coached summer camps in the Massachusetts and assistant coached for a varsity team in CA. Volleyball is a great way to stay active and involved outside of school.
I recently started a master's of education program at DePaul University for secondary science education. I can't wait to get into the classroom. Meanwhile, I love tutoring to get experience working with students.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I hope that I will be able to work with you in the future.
Cheers,
Kelly
