ESL/ESOL

I currently teach private lessons to executives. I specialize in creating lesson plans that suit an individual's needs. In addition, I use a variety of media -- music, visual arts, film clips, and interactive exercises. I work to reduce accent and improve pronunciation. I have a masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Concordia University in Portland, OR., and a TEFL certificate from the Lado Institute in Washington, D.C. I've taught internationally--Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and Mongolia. In Chicago, I've taught at social service agencies through Americorps. My students range from beginners to advanced. I work with both adults and children. I hope to hear from you.

Public Speaking

My public speaking career started in high school. I participated in a rigorous debate program, and I was awarded with the "Best Woman Debater" award in the city of Spokane, Washington. Subsequently, I majored in Communications from Washington State University, which included speaking training. As an English as Second Language instructor, I have devised many activities that involve speaking or presenting in front of a class. In addition, I assisted a student from Spain with formal Powerpoint presentations.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
