I enjoy teaching all levels of student in grades 1st-4th, and believes that all students can reach their full potential. I utilize best practice in instruction so that students can learn at their own pace. I inspire and motivate my students. I'm funny, creative, and make learning fun. I know that the early years are the most critical years in a child life. I was told once that every thing a child learns he/she learns it in kindergarten, and I believe that to be true, simply because I've had college students to tell me that they got their study skills while they were in my care. I love teaching. I love watching students become secure in who they are. My beliefs are if this happens at an early age it will follow them through out their lives making them productive citizen.

I am a retired disable teacher with limited mobility. Retired because of my disability, not because I didn't enjoy my job working with children, helping then to reach their full potential at what ever grade level I taught. I know that teaching is my "God" given talent, because when I was in the classroom I became that child sitting in front of my teacher. I remember how I felt with some of my teachers and I did not want my students to feel that way with me. I became a child to a certain degree, to nurture my students as I watch them grow and develop. I believe that if children are comfortable with their teachers learning will be easier for them.I tried to make that happen when they were under my instructions. If they learn the basis skills at an early age and get a good foundation they will not have to work so hard trying to catch up later on. Every child can learn, some just learn at different times and different ways. Some are visual learners, others learn by seeing, still others learn by touch. Whatever it took to help a child learn that was educational was what I did to help my students learn at their own pace. This is what I did with students that had a problem learning new concepts, remembering them , and putting them into practice. Most of the students I taught made progress even the ones that had special needs. Some of the slow learners were able to function at grade level.

Vocabulary

In my experience as an elementary teacher. I used words from the four basic subjects reading, science, math, and soc. studies. During my years as an elementary teacher I basically taught grammar through Reading. I introduced the parts of speech. The students were asked to define the Parts of Speech and take to remembrance. Reading

One of the requirements for teaching elementary education is to have some knowledge of all basic subjects. Spelling

To help my fourth graders form a solid foundation in spelling, I gave on-going instruction in phonics, consonants and blends, vowels, long/short sounds, etc. Students wrote their spelling words on flashcards with the words that they had a problems spelling and broke the words into syllables on the flip side of the cards. This helped them to pronounce the words correctly. The students then had to look the words up in their dictionaries, define them and use them in writing complete sentences.

Elementary Math

All teachers that teach elementary education are required to some degree to have some knowledge of the basic subjects that are taught in grade schools. I was a math resource teacher for nine years. Elementary (K-6th)

Most of my years as an experienced teacher were in grades PreK-4th. I taught Math resource to grades 1st-3rd for several years. During those years I was also a reading resource teacher to 1st-4th graders. As resource teacher, I had the privilege to be used as a replacement or substitute teacher to 5th and 6th graders.

Phonics

In teaching Phonics to my Kindergarten class. The alphabet and picture flash cards were presented to the class,alone with the sound for each letter of the alphabet. Once the class could recognize the letters and make the sounds for each letter. They were given a group of three letters. They were then asked to blend the sounds and letters together to form a word.

Study Skills

Good study skills should begin at an early age even prior to pre-kindergarten. The earlier a child begin studying the easier it is for him/her to form good work ethics and study skills. In elementary school most children have not developed good study skills therefore, it is left up to the teacher and the parents alone with the child to teach these skills to their students.
