I have been teaching and tutoring for over six years. My goal as a tutor is not only to be informative, but to make the process of learning for the student an enjoyable experience. My teaching methods include techniques used to relax the student, increase their concentration, and most importantly give them the confidence so they know that they can accomplish anything they put their mind to. All students learn at various rates (i.e. some are slow learners, some quick studies).
I possess the patience and dedication to my students, assuring that they not only feel good about themselves, but are more motivated to learn the subject material. As I often say to my students: "I'll show you the door, but you need to walk through it." As their tutor, they will not only learn the subject matter, but they will learn about themselves as well.
Three of the subjects that I have taught over the years include Math, History and English. With respect to math, I am proficient in basic math, pre-algebra, Algebra, English and Public Speaking. I have tested well in math and scored very high on the math portion of the SAT. I am a history buff, specifically American History, with a passion for reading historical fiction and non-fiction work. English may be my strongest subject as I am a stickler for proper grammar and spelling. I have an extensive vocabulary and enjoy all sorts of word games including crossword puzzles, Scrabble and Boggle. I have exceptional written and oral skills and currently work as a part-time content writer for a website. I am also employed as a tutor with The Academic Advantage Company in Chicago where I currently tutor 7 students ranging from 3rd to 9th grade in both math and English.
I have a good sense of humor, an easy going personality and an ability to connect with people regardless of their age.
