Elementary (K-6th)

I have completed a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, where the curriculum focused on individualizing lessons for students grades kindergarten through 8th grade. I did my student teaching at an elementary school, where I provided one-on-one lessons for numerous students in grades kindergarten through four. Instruction during this time focused on phonics, reading, and early math skills. I am confident that my educational background, coupled with my experience working in several schools, makes me capable of tutoring k-6th grade students.

Phonics

I have completed a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, where the curriculum focused on individualizing lessons for students grades kindergarten through 8th grade. I did my student teaching at an elementary school, where I provided one-on-one lessons for numerous students in grades kindergarten through 4th. During this time, I have provided a great deal of phonics instruction in programs including the Wilson Program, the Great Leaps program, and the Reading Horizons program. I have also created individualized phonics programs that focus on the qualities in word patterns, word sorts, word wall, and sight words.

Special Needs

I have completed a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, where the curriculum focused on individualizing lessons for students grades kindergarten through 8th grade. I did my student teaching at an elementary school, where I provided one-on-one lessons for numerous students in grades kindergarten through four. Many of the students I have worked with had a diagnosis of a learning disability, ADHD, Autism, and others. I also have experience modifying curriculum for students with more severe needs such as Down Syndrome. I feel comfortable addressing the needs of a variety of students with special needs and would be happy to discuss my previous experience both working privately with families one-on-one or working alongside them in public schools to ensure their child's academic success.

Study Skills

I have completed a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University, where the curriculum focused on individualizing lessons for students grades kindergarten through 8th grade. I did my student teaching at an elementary school, where I provided one-on-one lessons for numerous students in grades kindergarten through 4th. As students get older, I realize there is a greater emphasis on the need to stay organized and learn skills for studying. I have learned many of these techniques, and feel comfortable helping students get organized and prepared for exams or course work in various academic areas.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
