I am looking forward to serving your needs as a tutor. I am an experienced, well-trained teacher who has taught kindergarten through eighth grade. I have been a special education resource teacher for the past 15 years. I hold a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, a master's degree in Special Education, and a master's degree in School Counseling. I am certified in Elementary Education k-9, Special Education k-12, and School Counseling k-12. My experiences have been primarily in elementary schools, middle schools, and I have had a small amount of experience in high schools. During this time I have taught reading, mathematics, writing, language arts, science, social studies, study skills, and organizational skills to students. For the past seven years, I have worked as an elementary special education resource teacher.
I have had much experience with using RtI, Response to Intervention. This involves working with students who are academically behind their peers. RtI is an attempt to bridge the gap between students who are struggling academically and move them as close to grade level as possible. I have had experience working with regular education students, those who are learning disabled, autistic, ADHD, and emotionally disabled. I am very patient and sensitive to the needs of all students, so I work well with all types of students. I provide successful learning strategies such as differentiation, scaffolding, and flexible groupings in order for students to master academic material. I make accommodations and modifications to the regular education curriculum as much as the student needs them.
As an educator, I believe that every child is a learner, and, with the correct guidance, he or she can be successful in school. I feel that it is essential to remain consistently positive and encouraging toward the student during tutoring sessions. This will raise his or her self-confidence and encourage the student to take risks. It is crucial for the educator to be aware of where the student is functioning academically and know his or her strong and weak subject areas. First, I will do this by finding out your child's strengths and weaknesses. Next, I will provide the student with lessons and activities that are appropriate for his or her ability level and that are at his/her instructional level. Then, I will provide the student with repetition and review of the material in which he or she is having difficulty. This will strengthen his or her understanding of the concepts. Last, I will also provide the students with opportunities to play educational games to make learning fun.
In order for a child's academic learning to be successful, it is up to the adults working with the student to communicate regularly with one another. I plan on maintaining clear, consistent communication with parents, teachers, and any other adults that are working with the student. If you choose me as your child's tutor, you will definitely see your child soar and reach new heights.
