My tutoring methods include first getting acquainted with my student to break the ice, kick to the curb brain blocks that may be looming overhead and quickly assess his or her level of knowledge regarding the subject at hand. I am always conscious of what I consider the essential elements for my success as a tutor to be evidenced by the achievement of my students and the realization of their learning goals. Those elements include these personality traits I unashamedly boast: (1) I genuinely like people; (2) I am naturally inquisitive; (3) I am an excellent communicator, i.e. I speak well, I write well and I actually listen (as opposed to just waiting to talk).
I am an information professional, a film critic, an essayist, a sometimes annoying know-it-all and an armchair Jeopardy champion. My promise is this: If ever there is a question which leaves me stumped, I'll not only use every brain cell and research skill in my possession to get the answer, I will also equip my students with the tools they need to do it for themselves.
My soapbox entries: Knowledge is power; Every day is a new opportunity to learn; The only person standing between you and success is . . . You!
