I have a master's degree in journalism, with nearly 20 years of writing experience on a variety of subjects at many newspapers throughout the Midwest. In addition, I have undergraduate degrees in Spanish and political science. While I don't have strength in math, I do have an extensive background in the arts and social sciences. I would be able to assist a student across a wide variety of subjects in preparation for the ASVAB. Presently, I'm a college instructor in remedial reading and writing; I also work in the writing lab where I meet a diversity of students and concentrate on helping them with a range of writing projects. As the ASVAB is a preparatory test across a wide field, I would be able to help students pass the test, even guiding them to those areas that need preparation in math.
I have a permanent certification in English as a Second/Other Language, an endorsement on my teaching certificate in Florida. I earned 300 hours of training for the certification. I also work with a wide variety of students on the college level--students from all over the world. I've taught ESL here at the college, and I've spent years in Spain and Argentina where I polished my Spanish-speaking skills. I majored in Spanish on the undergraduate level.
While I presently teach remedial reading and writing in English, I'm also working in the writing lab to assist many students who are non-native, English language speakers. Students from different countries have individual concerns as regards learning to speak English. I've tried to reach them on various levels of speaking, writing and reading. Learning English must be approached within a wide scope of brain-based learning (auditory, visual and tactual).
