I have tutored my classmates in High School on subjects such as Algebra 1 & 2, and geometry. I was a facilitator at Harry S. Truman College. As a facilitator, I helped minority students improve their math skills so they can increase their chances in succeeding in the mathematics and science field. I'm currently a GED math tutor at two local non-profit organizations in Chicago.
My method of tutoring is quite simple. First, I ask the student to try to solve a problem by his/her own self. If he/she is not able to do so, then I teach the student step by step on how to solve the specific problem. Once he/she successfully solves the problem, I reinforce what the student learned by giving several more similar problems. Once I feel confident that the student understands how to solve the problem, I move on to the next topic.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken Visual C++ at Northeastern Illinois University. As a computer information systems tutor at a local Chicago college, I helped students finish their C++ programming exercises. Since I finished my C++ programming classes at Northeastern Illinois University, I've been doing programming exercises that our textbook offered at the end of each chapter. I can honestly say that my success rate in making the programs work is very high.
I took Visual Basic in the late 1990's at a local college. From then on, I've been doing programming exercises from several versions of VB. Currently, I've been doing programming exercises from a VB 2005 book. So far, I'm able to do most of the programming assignments. Therefore, I conclude that I'm capable of teaching this subject to anyone.
