I am a friendly, patient tutor who really enjoys helping adults and children who want to learn, understand and improve in writing, ESL, academic subjects, and other activities such as drawing and painting. In addition, I spend about half my time editing and revising student papers, essays, personal statements and applications for scholarships.
I graduated from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. I majored in American Studies (a self-designed interdisciplinary course of study) and minored in art and biology. I have a Master of Science in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Texas at Austin, TX. I also have a JD from the University of Houston Law Center, and am licensed to practice law in Texas and Illinois. I passed both the Texas and Illinois bar exams on the first time, six months apart. I have also been certified to teach English as a Second Language "ESL" by Literacy Chicago, where I teach ESL approximately 2 hours per week.
Through the years I have been employed as a City Planner, a Lawyer, a Contract Negotiator and a Technical Writer. Now I am at the end of my working career, and I want to use my education and knowledge to help others.I have a wide variety of education and experience. I grew up in northern New Jersey and attended the public schools there until college. My father was an English professor at Columbia University in New York City, and my mother was an artist who worked in oil and watercolors.
My official teaching experience, aside from working for WyzAnt, consists of:
- 2 years teaching online legal research techniques to attorneys and other legal professionals (employed by Westlaw Software),
- tutoring during college years,
- several years of tutoring in the Chicago Lights Tutoring Program sponsored by the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
