Business

I have extensive global business experience as the development director for national organizations such as the Statue of Liberty Foundation, Save the Children, and the National Safety Council. In 2008, I decided to re-train as a Business English Foreign Language Trainer.

I also have taught Business English courses at International English Academies in Chicago. Working as a Freelance tutor, I have taught both General and Business English to adults on a one-to-one basis. My students have included, amongst others, the Vice Presidents at PepsiCo from Spain and France, the senior management at Gatorade from Spain, a trader at Citicorp from China, and a graphic designer at an international design firm from Korea.

English

I am qualified to teach basic English, and English skills, basic and complex grammar, integration of vocabulary, English composition and reading, critical thinking and composition, creative writing and ESL. I have a proven track record of helping students in academic and business context, both to native English speakers and ESL speakers from high school to post graduate levels. My students achieve their learning objectives through highly individualized and personalized instruction that best suits each student's needs

ESL/ESOL

I have 10 years of experience helping speakers of other languages effectively communicate in English. I thoughtfully prepare and deliver lessons to meet your specific needs. I have travel around the world and have worked with students from Europe, China, Korea, Japan, and South America.

I recently received my Masters Arts (MAE) in English as a Second Language (ESL) Education. I offer you the latest effective instructional techniques and methods of helping you reach your goals, expectations, and needs. I design lessons that are interesting and focus on your interest. My patience and sociable personality make my lessons helpful, effective, and fun.

Public Speaking

I have extensive experience in delivering business presentations to small and large groups. As a public speaking tutor, I help people develop stronger communication skills to accomplish professional or personal goals. I will identify ways for the student to modify his vocal delivery, make his thoughts more articulate, use body language and improve pronunciation. For business clients, I can assist them with enhancing their presentation abilities. In addition, my tutorial guides the client through each stage of giving a presentation, from the initial preparation to the conclusion and questions and answers.

Study Skills

Students ready to study more efficiently, approach tests with confidence, and excel in the school and beyond can benefit from an accomplished tutors study skills techniques. I will develop a custom study skills plan focused on the skills you need to succeed. You will learn study skills and strategies, such as:
Organization and time management, including assignment tracking and goal setting
•Note-taking , including active listening strategies
•Researching and writing reports and subject-specific study techniques
•Test-taking strategies and how to best approach different test question formats
•Memory skills
•Relaxation Skills

TOEFL

Besides obtaining my MAE in ESL in 2010, I researched TOEFL thoroughly to develop the most effective teaching methods for student instruction for iBT. I completely customized a test prep plan to address the student’s specific learning style and goals. I also help student conquer exam stress and give them the self-confidence needed to reach their very best score.

Below is the process I use.

PHASE ONE: Learn
Study and memorize templates, and procedures for each section of the iBT
PHASE TWO: Practice
Practice up to 5 questions for each section to learn how to answer test questions quickly, clearly and correctly.
PHASE THREE: Clean-Up
Identify specific difficulties such as pronunciation or subject-verb agreement and improve performance.

Writing

My ESL writing tutoring sessions include:

1) Assessment of writing strengths and weaknesses.
2) Practical ideas to improve writing in English.
3)Techniques to improve writing by up-grading, or improving, vocabulary by discovering for better words and expressions.
4) Process to identify and understand what kinds of mistakes you make (often very small ones) or habits you have that weaken your writing.

5)Procedure to read your writing aloud to:
•catch small mistakes (articles, tenses, grammar etc.)
•realize the rhythm of your writing is too monotonous (similar word length etc.)
•find you don't move smoothly between ideas and sections (transitions)
•see (hear, actually) you have used the same word too much or the words are too simple (vocabulary)
6)System to spell check in reverse.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
