Hi!
I'm Linnea! I've tutored for about 8 years in subjects including music performance, math, organization, high school preparation, science, English, and ACT. I went to the University of Chicago Lab Schools from ages 3-18, which was an amazing experience, and I'm currently an undergraduate at Northwestern University.
I think the most important thing I have taken away from my education so far is how to enjoy learning. I honestly think it's fun to study and absorb new information. This is why I've chosen tutoring as my job during my years in college. I love to spread the excitement of learning something new to other people. It's an amazing feeling when you conquer new material and it goes from indecipherable to easy as pie.
My teaching style is very participation-based, sort of a mixture of the Socratic style and the 'mother tongue' style. I believe that it's important to understand not just the basis but the entire reasoning behind concepts, so a lot of back and forth discussion is necessary. I want my students to understand the information from all possible angles. The best way to do this is ask 'why?' about everything. When teaching languages (I offer English, Spanish, Italian, and French), it is necessary to spend as much time as possible communicating or attempting to communicate in the language learned- this is pretty intuitive. Other subjects, such as history, math, and music, also require immersion in less obvious ways when you are studying them. I can help you find ways to learn without it feeling like a chore, and in a way where you'll remember the information for a long time.
Please go ahead and contact me, and we can start the process of enhancing your education! Thanks!
Linnea
