My qualifications and experience teaching as an Illinois certified teacher, K-9, with added Illinois endorsements on my Certificate to teach in Special Education, Language Arts, and Computers -- all currently in good status -- enable me to conscientiously meet your requirements for a high-energy Tutor, with strong communication talents, student management skills, and hard work to achieve curriculum objectives. I am a retired Chicago Public School teacher in good standing, with pension, benefits, and union membership. I create learning worksheets and lessons by using many resources, from libraries to the Internet.
I specialize in:
1)Memberships in teacher organizations that enhance my resources with educational materials,
3)Membership in Chicago Public and Suburban libraries, as well as Internet public library e-book membership, Amazon I-pad library/discount/free/purchase book membership, and free Gutenberg book resource for printed books and e-books,
4)Fellow teacher communications, and
5)Internet and seminar meetings.
I take pride in my students’ progress enhanced by my teaching methods:
1) Differentiated instruction (individualized instruction designed for the learning modes of each student),
2) Game-like practice with learning and memorizing, and
3) Creative lessons to effectively teach the curriculum, including fundamental reading with specialized reading and math skills.
Keeping these methods in mind, I design many of my own learning materials to meet the needs of my students, and also carefully select lessons from specific reading teaching sets and prepared worksheets that are appropriate to the student’s best styles of learning.
I have tutored with WyzAnt in major elementary, high school and college subjects, also in public speaking and piano, credentialed additionally by passing WyzAnt tutor tests and meeting WyzAnt college teaching credits and teaching experience requirements. I have been a WyzAnt tutor since 2010, after retiring from teaching with the Chicago Public Schools. I reapplied successfully for teacher placement with the Catholic Schools after my retirement. Initially, following graduation with my B.A. from Dominican University, I taught in the Catholic Schools: (1) 5th grade during the second semester, and (2) Title I Reading in the primary grades after grad school. Following a 15 ½ year successful paralegal career, I wanted to return to teaching, having devoted 9 years of volunteer Saturday morning religion/behavioral education teaching in Humboldt Park. After Dominican University graduation, I earned 30 graduate hours in Special Education. I served the Chicago Public Schools as: an elementary computer teacher; a special education self-contained primary elementary teacher; and most recently a regularly appointed high school inclusion special education teacher.
Additionally, I have had 12 years of classical piano training from the best teachers. I am interested in the opportunity of teaching piano. I have also sung with excellent major choirs, including 1st soprano with the Niles Concert Choir for 8 years, after 12 years singing 2nd soprano with Sweet Adelines. I am talented and trained to teach voice lessons.
I work hard to prepare worthwhile lessons in academics and music. My students know that I am contributing work, while keeping their interest and success in mind. I hope that you will give me the privilege of presenting my lessons to help your student learn.
