I have more than ten years' experience conducting biological research and teaching science at the K-12 and Undergraduate levels. This includes a B.A. degree in Biology from a small liberal arts college, and Master's degree in ecology. Most recently, I have been specializing in tutoring ACT prep, and have prepared several review lessons to help students become more comfortable and ready for the test.

In addition to school, I have been extensively involved in K-12 science outreach programs, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania, and am an avid photographer.

I truly enjoy working with students one-on-one to help them better understand difficult concepts and subjects. Tutoring gives me the perfect opportunity to accomplish this, and I treat every one of my clients with the utmost respect.

Biology

I have been teaching Biology at all grade levels from middle school through undergraduate for the past five years. I was most recently teaching college level laboratory courses in General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology. I have also taught genetics, introductory biology, and middle school general and environmental biology. I have Biology undergraduate and graduate degrees, and thoroughly enjoy teaching.

Prealgebra

My approach to tutoring Math is to first talk with my student, getting to know their strengths and weaknesses. I will prepare a custom-tailored questions from published resources and help the student work through them. I strive for helping students to understand the concepts, as opposed to blindly memorizing or learning which buttons to press on a calculator (though I will review calculator use as well).

Zoology

For the past ten years I have been studying animal evolution, behavior, ecology, communication, and classification. My primary interest is with reptiles and amphibians (herpetology), and I have handled and monitored snakes, turtles, frogs, and toads throughout the U.S. and New Zealand. I have also been a student of fish ecology, primate communication, and ornithology. I am passionate about anything and everything having to do with animals!

ACT Math

My approach to tutoring for the ACT math subject area is to first provide the student with an overview of general test strategies, such as when and when not to use a calculator.
