My name is Jackie. I am originally from South Dakota. I graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BSED (Bachelor of Science in education) in mathematics. I have experience with teaching in South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, and a Dodd's school.
My student teaching experience was in England in a Dodd's school. I taught geometry and algebra I. I enjoyed the classes where I was able to teach students in a more one-on-one environment.
After graduating, I got a job as a high school mathematics teacher in a small town in Wyoming. I taught 8th grade math, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, pre-calculus, and a senior level math. I enjoyed teaching in a more hands-on approach in Wyoming.
In the fall of 2007, I was able to teach pre-calc and algebra I in a school in South Dakota. I was a long term substitute for someone that was on maternity leave.
In 2007, I started my first tutoring experience. I put my name in a local college, South Dakota State University, to tutor. Paul called me and asked me to tutor him. He had failed college algebra 6 times and needed to pass the class in order to graduate. I tutored Paul on a regular basis all semester. He ended up getting a B in the class. I learned how to teach in a way that I did not know how to before I did this experience.
During the school year of 2009-2010, I taught 7th, 8th, and 9th grade mathematics in South Dakota.
For the last 2 years, I have taught English as a second language in Japan.
