Algebra 1 is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I am intimately familiar with multiple-step equations, graphing, systems of equations, and all of the rules that are associated with algebra. What I have found is that some students become confused with the introduction on a single variable or multiple variables. My approach is to describe the role of variables in a way that makes algebra far less intimidating.
The college application process is the most exciting time for a high school student. When a student are guided and exposed to various options, wonderful opportunities present themselves. The college counseling process has many important steps, all of which are crucial to student success. The first step in this process, of course, is working with the student to identify their interests and goals. Once these interests and goals are identified, families can methodically sort the college brochures, based on whether they highly competitive, competitive, and "safety schools". In these troubled economic times, prospects for financial aid are an important consideration. For this reason, school endowment and scholarship prospects should be examined also. The college application itself can seem quite intimidating. The application process is rigorous, but as a college counselor, we would set a timetable for completion of each application. Application essays will be revised and re-revised, until they are strong and can "stand on their own". College applications are have increased at most colleges, so it is very important to be prepared and competitive. I am here to help you with any portion of the process!!!
My undergraduate major was Economics, but I fell in love with Economics when I took it during my entire senior year of high school. I am very comfortable with both Microeconomics (the actions of businesses and individuals) and Macroeconomics (an examination of the entire economy), having taught both subjects at a local two-year college. I help students to understand the subject using real-life examples, and I utilize graphs to make economics come to life.
I am in the process of getting my second master's degree, and it is an MA in Applied Linguistics: ESL. I currently teach ESL at a local university, where my focus is reading, writing, and conversation. I have worked with students from China, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Mexico.
